LightPath Study Bible ("LightPath", "we", "us") is a Bible study application available at www.lightpathstudybible.com and as an installable app. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect only what the app needs to serve you, we do not show ads, and we never sell your information.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and the display name and username you choose. Sign in works through secure email links or one-time codes, so we never store a password for you.
- Your study data. Notes, highlights, bookmarks, saved verses, reading position, preferences, reading streaks, badges, and similar study content you create are stored with your account so they sync across your devices.
- Questions you ask. When you use Ask the Bible or request verse explanations, the text of your question is sent to our artificial intelligence provider to generate an answer. Questions are processed to provide the service and to count usage against your plan's monthly question allowance.
- Payment information. Subscriptions and donations are processed by Stripe, our payment processor. Your card number goes directly to Stripe; LightPath never sees or stores your full card details. We keep records of your plan, payment status, and transaction history.
- Friends and community features. If you use them, we store your friend connections, chat messages, leaderboard activity, community verse submissions, and your referral code along with counts of sign-ups it produced.
- Messages you send us. If you contact us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply.
- Technical information. Like most services, our servers keep routine logs (such as request errors) to keep the app healthy and secure. We do not use advertising trackers.
How we use your information
- To provide the app: signing you in, syncing your study data across devices, answering your Bible questions, and processing payments.
- To send emails you have chosen to receive, such as sign-in links, receipts, the daily Verse of the Day, and occasional service messages. Every Verse of the Day email contains an unsubscribe link, and you can turn email and push notifications off at any time in the app.
- To send push notifications if you opt in, such as the daily verse, friend activity, and gentle reading reminders. You can turn these off at any time.
- To keep the service safe, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Ever.
- We do not show advertising or use third-party ad trackers.
- We do not use your questions or study data to build advertising profiles.
Who we share information with
We share information only with the service providers that make the app work, and only what each one needs:
- Supabase: secure database and authentication hosting for your account and synced study data.
- Stripe: payment processing for subscriptions and donations.
- OpenAI: processes the text of Bible questions you ask so the app can answer them.
- Microsoft Azure: converts Bible text to speech for the audio features.
- Email delivery providers: send the emails described above.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users and service.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual notes, highlights, and other study content in the app at any time (deleted items pass through a recycle bin before being permanently removed). To delete your account and its data entirely, email us at contact@lightpathstudybible.com and we will take care of it.
Children
LightPath is a family-friendly Bible study tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Your data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored with reputable hosting providers. Sign-in uses secure one-time email links instead of passwords, which removes the risk of a stolen password.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes to this policy we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, let you know in the app or by email.
